When I started writing poetry, I found it extremely useful to compose haiku poetry. The constraints I had to follow (5-7-5 syllables on three lines) were not only an excellent exercise in imagination, imagining, but they were also useful as an exercise on poetic form. Not all of the haiku I’ve written is of a highest quality, but it exercises the writer’s mind, her/his creativity. Because, sometimes, out of constraint, comes creativity. So, more haiku will be written…by me.
